The Saltire Prize

A while back, I was honoured to voice the promotional advert - a collaboration between National Geographic and The Scottish Government - for The Saltire Prize, Scotland's wave & tidal energy challenge to the world. The video was created to launch the international campaign on the The National Geograhic Channel and I'm delighted to now be able to share it with you here. You can check out more of my TV work over at my main website.

...a Job well done...

As Steve Jobs, the college-drop out and revolutionary co-founder of Apple steps down, I just had to share this amazing speech, given by him to college graduates at Stanford a few years back. The full excerpt is 15 minutes and worth every second. Here are a few of the most inspiring quotes...

"much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on..."

"You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever - because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well worn path..and that will make all the difference."

"Sometimes life's gonna hit you on the head with a brick - don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love and that's as true for your work as it is for your lovers. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking and don't settle."

"Remembering you are going to die is the best way to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart... Your time is limited. Don't waste it by living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma which is living with the results of other people's thinking...don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice...and most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition...they somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

"Stay hungry. Stay foolish."

What a great voice of wisdom, huh? Thank you for the inspiration Steve - you're the apple of my eye! ;)

...STV & Stay-cations...

Urban Dictionary: Stay-cation;

A vacation that is spent at one's home enjoying all that home and one's home environs have to offer.

Does this sound good? Well, check out this STV campaign I voiced for Classic Britain last week and treat yourself to one of their great stay-at-home offers throughout the UK on spa breaks, road trips, walking holidays, romantic getaways... Classic Britain - bliss!

..Hello, Bonjour, Hola...

...Bonjourno! Last week, I voiced the promotional film for a language school - and fortunately for me, the script was entirely in English. Ok, I can speak a little Del Boy French here and there but really admire those people who are truly bi or even tri lingual! For example, there's this little girl I know - under-5 years old - who actually speaks English, French, German and Spanish! C'est tres impressive! Back to school, anyone?

Language is the blood of the soul, into which
thoughts run and out of which they grow.

...The Who!

Yesterday, I voiced the BBC promos for an upcoming BBC Radio Scotland interview from Tom Morton with The Who frontman, Roger Daltrey. It reminds me of this quote from one of my all-time favourite films...

"Listen to Tommy with a candle burning....

and you will see your entire future"

- Anita Miller's
advice to young William
Almost Famous

If you love music of the early 70s era - this film is a must see! Meanwhile, listen out for that Roger Daltrey interview on BBC Radio Scotland. I loved my sneak preview...

...The Hilton

"The great advantage of a hotel is that
it's a great refuge from home life"
- George Bernard Shaw

I've just voiced a new project for The Hilton. Weekend mini-break anyone?
